BSD
As I understand it, BSD is no longer being developed since Linux has taken off to the extent it has. On the other hand, I have heard rumors that Apple's OS X and Rhapsody are BSD-based. So I'll have to plead ignorance of the whole matter. In the meantime, here are some links to the varieties of BSD out there.

Prominent Projects and Development
- General Graphics Interface (GGI) Project
- GNOME project This promises to be a great product, but right now it's mostly promises. It's got a grittier feel than KDE to me. To give you an idea... if KDE feels like Star Trek, then GNOME feels like Babylon 5.
- KDE - K desktop environment This is definitely the best GUI going right now! It's got a clean look, a professional feel, and it's available now, for free. Check out some of the Desktop Themes that are available for it.
- Java-Linux
- Linux Documentation Project
- Midnight Commander
- The Official AfterStep Home Page AfterStep was my favorite GUI until KDE came along. It's got a really progressive, "yuppy" look to it.
