Comin' Up a Cloud

Boogaloo's production for 2004 is another original production by award-winning playwright Betsy Vanderford: Comin' Up a Cloud.. The stories this time are tied around a cemetery caretaker and his apprentice. There's a storm coming, and the caretaker passes on to his apprentice the stories associated with the various tombstones in the graveyard as they relate to another storm that happened years ago. Storylines include:

Sleeze operator Johnny (Dan Prince) hatches a plot with the gold-digging Francie (Maggie All)

• A wedding ring that's lost, stolen, and found again.
• The story of teenage girl who's forced to become a parent to her younger siblings through the death of their mother.
• The difficulties of a young black couple trying to finance their dream house in the racially intolerant '60s
• The story of a dream come true (literally) for a young woman looking for love.

There are plenty of songs in this one, written by Ralph Lawson (who also directs) and one by myself.

In this production I play Raymond, who is recently divorced from his adulterous wife and who manages to find companionship despite the meddling of his domineering mother (not nearly as dreary as it sounds... there's actually a Rock-a-billy song and dance in it).
