This was written in May of 2005. If we didn't
already have a state song, this would be our entry. It's laid back and
a little slow without dragging. A summer day in Charleston. With
daiquiris. It's also easy to play, which is a nicety
Palmetto Skyline
I've been living here so long
Day after day it's been the same old song
But with all it's Southern charm
This Palmetto Skyline has surely grown
A hop and a skip away
From sister Charlotte and Atlanta way
A coast line full of history
A million miles from Back Bay
It's not simple and it's not easy
This struggle through the times
Sometimes tricky, this harmony
And a strong belief
In the future of a bright Palmetto Skyline
You grow up, you learn the local ways
Learn hard work pays off, not crime
Then you recognize and realize
There's an ever-changing Palmetto Skyline
The streets, they aren't paved with gold
In fact, some are barely paved at all
A grey community, a mix of Black and White
Dark days past but the stars come out at night
[instrumental]
A grey community, a mix of Black and White
Dark days past but the stars come out at night
And it's not simple and it's not easy
This struggle through the times
Sometimes tricky, this harmony
And a strong belief
In the future of a bright Palmetto Skyline
